No more cash in hand payments for scrap metal.

A ban is now in place meaning that cash in hand payments for scrap metal will no longer be acceptable, all payments will need to be made electronically or by cheque. Cash in hand payments may result in particularly heavy fines depending on  the severity of the infringement.

The new ban stems from changes to the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act which will also enable police to enter scrap metal yards with a warrant to investigate suspected cases.
If a company is exposed for breaking the ban, all employees in connection will be deemed guilty to the offence.

Guidance of how the new ban will beenforced can be found here.
